Boat Description...
Conceived to bridge the once-impossible gap between sail and power, the Mark
Ellis designed 50 (formerly called the Bruckmann 480) is a clearly superior
solution marking a new era in motor sailing efficiency. Unlike many hybrids,
which are neither fish nor fowl, the Bruckmann 50 is in a class by itself,
offering exceptional sailing performance at the push of a button while also
incorporating power capability that far exceeds that of most trawlers. The
dynamic hull form features wide flat runs into powerful aft sections,
allowing the 50 to cruise easily at over 9 knots, both under sail or powered
by the 140hp Yanmar diesel. She will approach 11 or 12 knots under power
quickly if desired, but there is always reserve horsepower to handle
adversity. The Bruckmann 50 is designed to be an extraordinary sailboat with
emphasis on speed, stability, and upwind performance. This is a couples’
boat that features the advantages and simplicity of “push button” sailing
without sacrificing the thrill of sail. One never leaves the safety of the
cockpit when making sail, reefing, or stowing sails. The simplicity of total
sail handling from the cockpit offers enhanced security and a new sense of
ease under sail.
The
Bruckmann 50 has advantages under power far superior to the trawler, yet she
can sail better than most cruising boats in a breeze. There is no need to
give up a lifetime of sailing when technology allows for “push button”
sailing on a lovely day—or even a bad day.
